The days might be getting shorter, but that doesn’t mean your disc golf season is over. In fact, it’s just time to turn out the lights. The 2026 MVP Space Race is officially on the horizon, running from September 12th through December 12th. If you enjoyed the 2026 MVP Circuit Challenge, you are going to love this nighttime format.
Whether you are a seasoned tournament veteran, a brand-new player looking for a laid-back first event, or a plastic collector hunting for exclusive runs, the Space Race is an absolute blast. Here is everything you need to know about the format, the gear, and the exclusive discs you'll score just for showing up.
What is the MVP Space Race?
Unlike a standard, high-pressure PDGA-sanctioned tournament, the Space Race is designed to be a fast-paced, no-holds-barred race to the chains! These events typically take place in a single evening under the cover of darkness, utilizing MVP’s industry-leading glow disc golf discs.
Tournament Directors are encouraged to get creative and make the event their own. You’ll often see courses modified with shorter tees, alternate basket placements, or even extra baskets set up specifically to increase the chances of carding those glorious, super memorable aces.
The Points Format & The Prizes
Because it isn't a sanctioned event, the format is built for pure fun. Many events run a customized points system where players get two throws per hole to rack up points: 1 Point for a metal hit, 3 Points for chains, and 5 Points for an Ace.
The player/players with the most cumulative points at the end of the night wins an awesome prize pack of MVP Lab Second discs in a variety of molds and plastics! Lab 2nds are discs with minor cosmetic defects, but they fly exactly as awesome as they were designed to.
The 2026 Space Race Player Pack: Exclusive Plastic
The Space Race two-disc pack provides exactly what you need for a rally through the galaxy. The only way to get your hands on these two specific discs right now is to register for a 2026 Space Race.
1. Axiom Eclipse Electron Hex (Estimated Flight: 5 | 5 | -1 | 1)
The Axiom Hex needs no introduction. It is my absolute favorite neutral flying midrange on the market. I personally bag the Proton Hex, throwing it flat for laser-straight shots, sweeping hyzers, and anhyzers on backhand.
Where I think the Hex really shines is its ability to handle forehands. I love throwing it on flip-up touch shots and turnover forehand lines in the woods. For the very first time, this legendary mold is available as the Axiom Eclipse Electron Hex. MVP's new blend feels almost too good to be true, offering incredible, tacky grip combined with top-tier nighttime visibility.
2. MVP Eclipse Particle (Estimated Flight: 3 | 3 | 0 | 2.5)
The fan-favorite is back! The MVP Eclipse Particle is a stable-to-overstable putter. In our field testing, the Particle flew like an "Envy OS." It's not quite as overstable as the MVP Entropy, but it is definitely a noticeable step up in stability from the Axiom Envy.
Players absolutely loved having this disc in their bag last year when it was released in the 2025 Gyropalooza boxes, and now it's back and brighter than ever in pure Eclipse plastic. Approach the basket with confidence, day or night, throwing forehand or backhand.
The Optional Add-On: Axiom Watermelon Tempo
While it won't be used in the actual Space Race event, you have the option to snag a highly collectible Watermelon disc as an add-on! Watermelon discs have been highly sought after by collectors over the years, and we are beyond excited to welcome you back into the melon patch with the Axiom Watermelon Proton Tempo.
With flight numbers of 4 | 4 | 0 | 2.5, the Watermelon Tempo is just what the farmer ordered. Note: This is a restricted special-edition release and cannot be sold online until December 13th
Essential Gear: Light Up the Fairway
If you are playing a Space Race, you need a good UV light to charge your Eclipse plastic. Here is what we recommend:
- The Starter: Basic MVP UV Flashlight
- My Personal Recommendation: This is the size I personally carry. MVP Large 51 LED UV Flashlight
- The Big Boy: For those who don't mess around. MVP Extra Large 100 LED UV Flashlight
- The Ultimate Convenience: If you want to splurge, or if you just hate blinding yourself and your cardmates while trying to see in the dark, check out the Disc in the Dark Halo Red.
