The Complete Innova Tern Collection

Welcome to the home of smooth, massive distance! The Innova Tern Collection features one of the most highly recommended understable distance drivers in disc golf. Designed to provide incredible glide without requiring the elite arm speed of a touring professional, the Tern is often the disc that helps advancing players break their personal distance records. With its comfortable 12-speed rim and shapeable flight path, it is an absolute necessity for open fairways and tailwind drives. Browse our live inventory below to find the perfect Tern to anchor the top end of your Innova lineup.

Understanding the Flight Dynamics & Profile

The Tern is engineered for one primary purpose: staying in the air. Most premium plastics (like Star, Halo Star, and Pro) feature official flight numbers of 12 | 6 | -3 | 2. The combination of a massive 6 glide rating and a heavily understable -3 turn means the disc naturally wants to flip up flat and ride on a long, right-turning trajectory (for a RHBH thrower) before a dependable fade kicks in. The slightly shallower rim makes it exceptionally comfortable compared to bulky 13 or 14-speed maximum distance drivers.

How the Tern elevates your game:

  • First High-Speed Driver: It is the ultimate transition disc for players moving up from 9 or 10-speed fairways, offering easy, pushing distance without instantly fading out.
  • Effortless Hyzer Flips: Thrown on a hyzer angle, the Tern pops up to flat effortlessly, gliding laser-straight down the fairway.
  • Max Distance S-Curves: For players with a bit more arm speed, throwing it flat allows the disc to carve a massive, sweeping S-curve to eat up huge chunks of open space.

Choose the Right Plastic Blend for Your Game

Innova adjusts the flight numbers of the Tern based on how the plastic molds up. Compare these fantastic blends in our inventory to find the exact stability and grip you need:

  • Pro Line (12/6/-3/2): Provides exceptional glide and a tacky grip. It breaks in much faster than premium plastics, giving you immediate access to heavily understable, easy distance.
  • Star Line (12/6/-3/2): The flagship premium opaque blend. It offers the absolute best balance of high-end durability and all-weather grip, seasoning slowly into a perfect S-curve bomber.
  • Halo Star Line (12/6/-3/2): Features a gorgeous two-tone look. It tends to mold up slightly firmer, offering a touch more torque resistance while retaining that beautiful -3 turn.
  • Proto Glow Line (12/6/-3/2): Innova's upgraded glow-in-the-dark plastic. It offers an ultra-bright, long-lasting luminescence perfect for night rounds, flying very similarly to standard Star.
  • Champion Line (12/6/-2/2): Extremely durable and translucent. Because it molds up stiffer, it is the only Tern uniquely rated with a -2 turn, making it the most wind-resistant and stable option in the lineup.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Tern

Is the Tern a good disc for beginners?

Because it is a 12-speed distance driver, we do not recommend the Tern for brand-new beginners just learning to throw. However, for advancing players who have mastered their midranges and 9-speed fairways, the Tern's massive glide and forgiving turn make it arguably the best disc to help you step up into the high-speed driver category.

Why does the Champion Tern have different flight numbers?

Innova officially adjusts the flight numbers on the Champion Tern to reflect how the plastic cools and molds. Champion plastic creates a slightly more overstable disc than Star or Pro. Because it resists turning over more than the other plastics, it is rated with a tighter -2 turn instead of the standard -3.

How does the Tern compare to the Daedalus?

The Tern and Daedalus are very similar understable bombers. The main difference is speed and control: the Tern is a 12-speed (making the rim slightly more comfortable for many players) and is generally considered a bit more predictable and controllable than the wider-rimmed, 13-speed Daedalus.
